Awards and Promotions

Awards

Awards function as a free taggable in social situations in which the target is military or likely to respect military decorations. There may be a penalty to this bonus where the target is from a different branch of service or is a member of a different nation’s armed forces.

Awards are rolled for at the end of each Mission, if any recommendations are made. Recommendations may be made by the table, the Commander, or the Game Master, unless the award is for the Commander, in whcih case of the table or Game Master may recommend.

Rolls are a flat roll, plus or minus any modifiers.

Some sample modifiers include:
Commander’s Influence (Bureaucracy roll, with results assigned as a bonus to other individual award rolls)
Outside Endorsement/ Condemnation
Character has recently received another award (excepting Wound Stripes/ Purple Hearts)
Completed Mission was simple
Completed Mission was difficult
Character was wounded during the Mission (in addition to Wound Stripe/ Purple Heart)
For each other award put in for this Mission by the Commander

Awards received in this manner may not be refused (though they may never be invoked). Other awards may be refused for storytelling/ roleplaying purposes.

The UK Awards are:
Wound Stripe, Military Medal, Military Cross, Distinguished Service Order, George Cross, and Victoria Cross.
Additional awards of the same decoration are denoted with a bar.

The US Awards are:
Purple Heart, Commendation Medal, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Distinguished Service Cross, and Medal of Honor.
Additional awards of the same decoration are denoted with a star.

Promotions

Promotions may or may not effect your High Concept Aspect.

Promotions are rolled for at the end of every Mission for every character excluding the Commander. Promotion rolls for the Commander may be made at the recommendation of the table or the Game Master.

Rolls are a targeted roll, with the value needed to be met or exceeded determined by your current rank, plus or minus any modifiers.

Some sample modifiers include:
Commander’s Influence (Bureaucracy roll, with results assigned as a bonus to other individual award rolls)
Recieved Award for completed Mission (based on ‘value’ of award)
Mission was difficult
Character is still a Private
Character is already a Noncommissioned Officer
Character is already a Senior Officer
Character showed “Exceptional Heroism or Judgement” (table assigned bonus)

Promotions may not be refused unless they would carry the character into the next rank grouping (i.e. Enlisted to NCO, NCO to Officer, Officer to Senior Officer). If a player does accept a promotion for their character to the next rank grouping they are required to utilize their next advance in the purchase of a Stunt to reflect their new position in the military.

The UK Ranks are:
Enlisted: Private, Lance Corporal, Corporal
NCO: Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Colour Sergeant, Company Sergeant
Officer: 2nd Lieutenant, Lieutenant
Senior Officer: Captain, Major

The US Ranks are:
Enlisted: Private, Private First Class, Corporal
NCO: Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant
Officer: 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant
Senior Officer: Captain, Major

Promotions beyond the rank of Major would be by Game Master decision only.
